HOW IT HAPPENED
After a case of mixed up names during a procedure left a patient feeling isolated and vulnerable, Dr Mike McCabe began the #CallMe campaign to encourage medical professionals to ask patients for their preferred name.
We partnered with Mike and Oxford University Hospitals to create a film from the point of view of a patient with dementia as he becomes more and more confused that the staff won’t use his name.
We used a moveable split diopter provided by Panavision on a Sony Rialto to create this effect in camera. This film and an accompanying one went on to win the National Adviser for NHS LGBTQ+ Health Award for their positive impact on LGBTQ+ patients.
